Help Malteser InternationalMalteser International is committed to providing relief ‘on the spot’ while seeking to facilitate the link between emergency relief and sustainable development. It has successfully met the challenge of working in partnership with those affected by disaster by creating opportunities for rehabilitation and development while ensuring that the most basic human needs are met. 

In the face of enormous challenge, it has consistently risen to the task, creating and expanding its programs in the wake of truly catastrophic events.  From constructing rainwater-harvesting tanks that provide fresh water to thousands of families affected by the Asian Tsunami to rebuilding homes in a devastated city of New Orleans, Malteser International’s work knows no international boundaries.

While continuing to serve those suffering in the aftermath of highly visible disaster, Malteser International also reaches out to those quietly languishing in nations torn asunder by war.  Witness the plight of the women of the Congo, suffering in silence as the brutality against them reaches nearly unimaginable extremes.  Malteser International, through its network of health clinics, will treat 8,000 women in this year alone, offering hope and restoring dignity where there had been misery alone.  Similarly, thousands of refugees exposed to infectious disease and malaria in Darfur, Western Sudan will be saved through the availability of medical services.  Yet perhaps more significant, with training and counseling support their own communities are developing the capacity to handle these critical health care needs.

Increased and diversified philanthropic support is vital if Malteser International is to advance its agenda and address the urgent and continuing needs of the poor and the vulnerable worldwide.
