How much money does Malteser International raise? Where does this money come from?
People in need throughout the world benefit substantially from a community of helpers and supporters who, working together, can achieve efficient, coordinated results. This network of relief enables Malteser International to go where help is needed most. In 2006, the project volume of Malteser International totalled more than $34 million dollars.
The support of private donors worldwide is essential. Without them, Malteser International’s humanitarian work could not be carried forward. Private donations help us to help the poorest of the poor and to fulfil our mission to alleviate human suffering. Private support is essential to our ability to operate independently and to respond at a moment’s notice to the most urgent emergencies, often in countries and regions that are otherwise forgotten.
Based on its long standing experience in the field of humanitarian relief and through the associations and relief agencies of the Order of
Numerous non-governmental and governmental organisations, the private sector, civil society and public funds and their financial support and cooperation enable Malteser International to go where help is most needed.
Malteser International will not accept contributions from corporations or industries and their respective corporate foundations whose core activities may be in direct conflict with the goals of the humanitarian work of our organisation, or in any way limit Malteser International’s ability to provide humanitarian assistance.
For more detailed information please see the Malteser International Annual Report.
What percentage of a donation goes to program activities?
Malteser International strives to operate efficiently and to minimize fundraising and administrative costs. In 2006, the administrative costs amounted to seven percent of Malteser International’s total expenditure.
How can I make a donation?
Simply visit our donation page to make a tax-deductible donation online. You will receive a tax receipt for your contribution.
Can I earmark my donation for a certain area/project?
Malteser International appreciates your interest in supporting our programs. It is possible to have your gift directed towards a specific program or country where we are currently working, but we kindly ask you to contribute unrestricted funding. By not restricting your contribution for a specific emergency or project, you will enable us to allocate our resources more efficiently and where the needs are the greatest.
Can I donate supplies as an in-kind donation
Malteser International is unable to accept donations of supplies. Because the key to saving lives in an emergency is speed, it is our practice to have prepared specialized and uniform emergency kits or to purchase medicine and other materials on the spot, in the affected country or in the neighbouring countries. Thus, we are not only in a position to save high transport and distribution costs, but at the same time we also boost the local economy.
