Malteser International is the worldwide humanitarian relief service of the Order of Malta that plans and realises programmes in more than 30 countries in the world. One of the main tasks is to carry out emergency relief worldwide as well as to link relief, rehabilitation and development measures. In South Sudan, Malteser International is running a comprehensive TB/HIV, Leprosy and Sleeping Sickness Control Programm in close cooperation with local partners (Diocese, Ministry of Health). Patients are diagnosed and treated at Hospital level run by Malteser as well as in the Primary Health Care Centres at the community level. A strong focus is laid on building the capacity of local health staff and counterparts, as well as in improving the knowledge of the people living in the communities.

Position Description

The Programme Coordinator is responsible for the overall coordination of the programme and ensures implementation of project activities as outlined in the annual log frames and plans. Responsibilities include:

Planning and coordinating the overall program of Malteser in the location.

Ensuring the implementation of project activities as outlined in the annual log frames and plans Responsible for proposal development and report writing both internal and external to the donor.

Overall responsibility for program budget; administration, book-keeping, accountability, procurement, logistics, storage.

The programme coordinator is final responsible for Malteser International at the location and is the focal point for a team of both national and international staff.

Maintaining good relationship with the local authorities and partners (e.g. Dioceses, Minsitry of Health) in the location.

Strong involvement and participation in the handing over process of health activities to local partner, including capacity building and implementation of handing over strategy plan

Requirements:

Language skills Fluency in English

Bachelor or masters degree in relevant field

Working experience as coordinator / project manager in Africa of at least 3 years

Strong diplomatic and negotiation skills dealing with partners and authorities

Knowledge in administration including finance and logistics/procurement

Excellent ability to work in and lead a large team of locals and other expatriate staff

Fully computer literate and fluent in English

Ability to work under difficult conditions and to recover quickly from set-backs

Physical and mental strength, sensitivity for other cultures
